Angle measure, the protractor, classifying angles

Classroom activities

Things a class does rather than writes on. Each one is a finished PDF: print it, cut it up if it says so, and hand it round.

  • The Protractor — Cut & Glue Sort 25 minutes, including the cutting · 5 sheets

12 protractors laid on 12 angles to cut out and glue into 3 rows — one arm on a zero, neither arm on a zero, or it cannot be read because the vertex is not on the center mark — with a short arm in every row, because a short arm only has to be extended.

  • Angle Measure & the Protractor — Answer Maze 10–15 minutes · 4 sheets

One page and nothing to prepare: one protractor with 6 rays out of its center, and 8 boxes each asking for one angle — where the wrong answer is the other scale, or one reading instead of the difference of two, and leads to a box that sends you back.

  • Angle Measure & Classifying Angles — Mystery Picture 25–35 minutes · 4 sheets

25 angles, some with a printed measure that wins over the drawing, some with a little square, some with nothing: fill only the obtuse ones — more than 90° and less than 180° — and a picture appears.

  • Angle Measure & the Protractor — Scavenger Hunt a full class period · 13 sheets

16 protractor cards round the room: estimate first, then read the scale whose 0 the flat arm lies on — reading the other scale lands a group on a card that sends it back, and a clean run is 8 lines on the record sheet.
